IBD Newsletter | April 2024
After an exciting ECCO congress with lots of interesting study results, we can celebrate true UK collaboration success. The PROFILE study was the leading highlight for us and we are very grateful to the study team and many UK investigators expertly led by Miles Parkes and Nuru Noor.
We hope you had a relaxing break over Easter to recharge the batteries. BSG LIVE'24 is just around the corner and we have curated a hopefully very interesting IBD programme for you. We look forward to the publication of the IBD UK reports (more details on this below) both on a local and national level. These will provide valuable insights to improve IBD services across the country.
We hope to see you all in Birmingham at BSG LIVE'24 on 17th - 20th June. In the meantime, as always, please don’t hesitate to contact us for all matters IBD and BSG.
Best wishes,
Christian and Chris | |

We are delighted to let you know that the public reports for individual IBD services based on the IBD UK benchmarking in 2023 are now live on the IBD UK website.
IBD UK is an alliance of 16 organisations all working together to improve care and treatment for everyone affected by IBD. Crohn’s & Colitis UK chair and provide the secretariat for the alliance.
Clinicians who were the registered contact for the Service Survey should have already received an email with copies of the public and private report for their IBD service. If you were the registered contact and haven’t received anything, please contact info@ibduk.org. If your IBD service registered to take part in the Service Survey and you weren’t the registered contact, please ask the relevant colleague if they have received the reports and ask them to share them with the IBD team.
Even if your IBD service did not register for the Service Survey, a report will have been produced based on patient feedback as long as more than five patients responded to the IBD Patient Survey. We encourage you to visit the website and see if a report has been produced for your service. If a public report has been produced then please email info@ibduk.org to request that the more detailed and private report is provided to you. Please take the time to look at your reports and discuss how you will address the findings through Quality Improvement plans. You may find IBD UK’s Resources for IBD Services useful, which include case studies, templates, and videos to share best practice. If your service would like to contribute to this directory of resources and share your own examples of best practice that others can learn from, please get in touch with info@ibduk.org
There is also a Service Communications Toolkit on the IBD UK website to help you communicate your results to a range of stakeholders.
The next phase of work will be to finalise the IBD UK national report, due for launch in Summer 2024. This will build on the previous report launched in 2021.

METEOR Study
The METEOR study team at UCL are looking for BSG collaborators to take part in a multicentre study in conjunction with the BSGAR (British Society of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Radiology).
It aims to establish the predictive ability of MR Enterography for disease relapse after stopping biologics in Crohn's disease patients in clinical remission. Almost half of patients relapse within one year and there is a poor understanding of individual patient risk. Clinical predictors have very limited use in this context, and MRI could provide some added value. There is a relatively small time commitment, ~5-10 patients per site and no change to standard clinical care. You'll need to identify patients and complete 2 short electronic forms along with a local radiology collaborator, including a consensus decision on disease relapse status at 1 year. BSG trainees can help consultants.
Please find attached a few brief slides with an overview of the study and what to expect if you take part. You can sign up here.

IBD pregnancy BUMPS collaboration
Working with the UK Teratology Service we have developed an IBD version of their BUMPS pregnancy safety database. In addition to patient self report, we are aiming to recruit UK centres that will actively participate in the work.
We aim to recruit at least ten centres. Centres will become a site for this study which has full ethics approval. You would be asked to point patients towards the BUMPS website to self-register and consent. Patients will provide data and you will be asked to fill in additional data (disease activity, confirm medicines, IBD outcomes etc). The BUMPS study can also be used as platform for future nested studies looking at special populations.
We will jointly provide analysis of the data and invite every contributor to become an author on publications arising from the work. If you are interested in participating, please fill in this short google form.

Sexual function amongst people living with IBD
Sexual dysfunction is a recognised domain within inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) related disability. Very little is known about conversations around sexual function between healthcare professionals and people living with IBD.
The team at the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust & University of Manchester are conducting a survey to assess health care professionals’ knowledge, attitudes, and practice regarding sexual function in patients with IBD, as well as barriers to providing sexual health care. Thank you for taking a few minutes to assist with your views.
